Cycle Schools Colleges
Cycle Schools and Colleges project
TfGM wants to encourage students, parents and teachers to get on their bikes and get active.
The Cycle Schools and Colleges project was launched in July 2014 and we are now working with over 20 schools and colleges across Greater Manchester to develop cycling as an attractive and convenient travel option.
Working closely with each school, we are investing in cycling infrastructure in and around the school’s location, including improvements to local cycle routes and providing new and improved cycle parking facilities.
We also offer guidance, training events and continued support for each of the schools and colleges taking part in the project.
Mary Hunter, Principal at Xaverian College, Manchester, said: "The initiative has given both students and staff great encouragement, through really enhanced resources and facilities, to support their fitness campaign through cycling.
"The scheme has also supported road improvements locally to improve safety for those cycling to college".
The schools and colleges currently involved in the project are:
The Cycle Schools and Colleges project is part of the £42 million Cycle City programme led by TfGM with Department for Transport funding.
The Cycle City programme is introducing major improvements to cycle routes and facilities across Greater Manchester, alongside education, information and training to encourage cycling, particularly as part of longer journeys.
